One Year and More to Come!
Hi! Quinn here!
Thanks to all your support, Kitties & Cream just celebrated our one-year anniversary on November 17th! Time flies, doesn’t it? I still remember my first day like yesterday! As someone who has been working here since opening, I’ve seen a lot of changes and growth at K&C over the last year, and my love for this place has also grown. Why, you ask? Let me tell you!
As a Japanese queer person who came to Canada to look for a better life, a hiring post from Kitties & Cream sounded too good to be true to be honest. I get to work with cats, and the owner is proudly queer = I get to support the good cause of promoting feline adoption while working in a safe space. Say no more—I jumped at the opportunity.
This place is exactly what I imagined and beyond!
Back in November 2020, at my job interview, only Luna and Damon were in the lounge. Kelly then brought in Cas and Mouse. I was already having the time of my life with the cats, then, even better, we got Sophie and Willow! They’ve grown up to be absolutely gorgeous and I got to see it with my own eyes! How cool is that?
I love that K&C carries cat supplies and meowchandise from local artists and other small businesses! Seeing all the lovely artwork, in addition to the fact that I actually love and trust what we sell, really motivates me.
When I say I love the team, the people I work with, I truly mean it. On a personal note, over the course of one year, I’ve socially transitioned as a non-binary person, and that is majorly thanks to them. While it can unfortunately be a struggle even to explain my pronouns (they/he) without being judged, they all simply and easily accepted it as if it was no big deal. The feeling that everyone accepts me made the transition much easier and more comfortable.
There are many more reasons and stories why I love K&C, but I’m hoping to see even more as our journey continues and I get to share with YOU!
